Case Study - McCadden

CLIENT: McCadden

ISSUE: Needed a voiceover for their project: Weaver's Cross

SOLUTION: Providing a time sync'd and fully edited voiceover to be added to their video.

Glenn from McCadden got in touch with me because they needed a professional voice for their upcoming project presenting a new large housing development in the city of Belfast. They wanted to bring the presentation to an audience at an international event but they wanted a real Northern Irish voice and I was delighted to be asked to work on this project!

I let Glenn know that I provide a sample read of their script before we start so that we can ensure the client hears what they want to hear and it’s how they imagined it would sound, for pitch, pacing and tone. Sometimes I’m asked to match the speech to a specific speed or a specific number of slides and at a specific time which are all things I’m happy to do.

I usually get the script and have a read over it to see how I would say it and then have a look at what the client would want to hear. 9 times out of 10 those line up and it’s a very easy process, it’s always nice to be surprised when a client wants to go with something different though!

After I’ve made the sample and sent it to the client, I wait for their feedback and then it’s time to record the whole thing for ‘real’.

I’ll step into my booth and record then get onto the DAW (digital audio workstation) where I can edit. Typically I’ll do a couple of takes so that if we should need it there's always a backup!

Once the edit is complete it’s time to send the files to the client. There are options for this depending if the client wants mp3 files or wav files - both of which are fine but wav files generally have to be sent on a file sharing system as they are larger than mp3s which can generally be sent over email as they're smaller.

The client then puts their video along with my audio and it’s ready for them to show at the event.
